First..."Have you come to a place in your life where you know for certain that you have eternal life and will go to heaven when you die?"

Second..."If you died today and stood before God and He asked you, “Why should I let you into heaven?”...what would you tell Him?

The first question is easy. It’s either "yes" or "no". The second question takes a little more thought. You may have answered, “Because I’m a good person”. Or perhaps you said, “I’ve always gone to church”. Or maybe, “my mother and father were Christians, so that’s good enough for me”. The correct answer to this question is, “because I have asked Jesus into my heart and He has forgiven me of my sins.” See, there is only one way to go to heaven. Just going to church doesn’t make you a Christian anymore than being in a garage makes you a car. There are ways, however, that you can know for certain that you'll go to heaven.

In the New Testament of the Bible, the book of 1st John, chapter 5, verses 12 and 13, it says, “He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.” (New International Version)

So, how do you become a Christian? How do you ask Jesus into your heart, and get forgiven of your sins? And why do you need to? Let’s take a closer look, and see what the Bible says...

In the New Testament book of Romans, chapter 3, verse 23, it says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (NIV). See, everyone has sinned. You, me, everyone.

"So," you ask, "what’s the big deal? So we have all sinned." Let’s read on. In Romans 6:23 it says, “For the wages of sin is death…” (NIV) The wages of sin, or the result of sin, is death. In other words, the result of that sin means you won’t go to heaven. But there is more to verse 23. It reads, “…but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus.” (NIV) This is a free gift, nothing to work for, nothing to buy. It’s free.

How do you receive this free gift? The Bible tells us that we must be “born again”. That's a Christian term that means we will change; we will become different than we are now. Let’s read from the book of John, chapter 3, verse 3. “In reply Jesus declared, 'I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.'” (NIV) This new birth is not a physical birth, but rather a spiritual one. The only way to have that new birth and go to heaven is through Jesus Christ. The book of John, chapter 14, verse 6, reads, “Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'” (NIV) The only way to get to God the Father is through His Son, Jesus Christ. The only way that God will forgive our sins is through Jesus Christ. In the book of Romans, chapter 10, verses 9-11, it says, “That if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. As the scripture says, anyone who trusts in Him will never be put to shame.” (NIV)

Jesus wants to live in your heart. Look at what a verse in the book of Revelation, chapter 3, says. “Here I am! I will stand at the door [of your heart] and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him and he with Me.” (Verse 3, NIV) Jesus wants to live in your heart. He is waiting for YOU to ask Him in!

The Bible tells us that when we die we will either go to heaven or hell. There is no in-between. YOU must decide, it’s YOUR choice. God doesn’t send anyone to hell - WE choose to go there. Are you a sinner? Remember, "ALL have sinned", so the answer is, "yes". Do you want forgiveness for your sins? Do you believe Jesus died on the cross and rose again? Are you willing to surrender your life to Jesus Christ? Are you ready to invite Jesus into your heart and into your life? Will you choose heaven today? If you said "yes" to THESE questions, as well, then please pray this simple prayer right now, right where you are, in front of your computer.

Pray: "Heavenly Father, I have sinned against You. I want forgiveness for all my sins. I believe that Jesus died on the cross for me and rose again. Father, I give You my life to do with as You wish. I want Jesus Christ to come into my life and live in my heart. This I ask in Jesus’ name, Amen."

If you just prayed this prayer, congratulations! You are now a member of the family of God and you can now know for certain that you have eternal life and will go to heaven! We encourage you to find a Bible teaching church in your area to start attending. Let them know you just gave your heart to Jesus and you want to know what to do next!
